A man who in the past served as the executive director of the Republican Party of Los Angeles County was collared for allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to a teenage girl, KPCC Radio reported Friday.
Scott Hounsell was booked into the county jail on suspicion of sending harmful matter to a child; according to a story posted online by KPCC, the 16-year-old told investigators the suspect sent her the messages on social media.
He was booked at 11:44 a.m. Friday by the Los Angeles police Juvenile Division, jail records show.
He was being held in lieu of $40,000 bail but information on an arraignment court date was not immediately available.
According to his LinkedIn page, Hounsell has been a field representative and internship coordinator for California state Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, KPCC reports.
Jonathan Wilcox, a spokesman for the county's official Republican organization, says Hounsell resigned June 15, the radio station reported.
Wilcox said the organization didn't know about the case until contacted by law enforcement and is cooperating fully.
