Harmless Dog Stabbed In San Gabriel Valley Front Yard

Pomona police released surveillance images of a man who killed a dog in what looks like an unprovoked attack.

POMONA, CA —Pomona police want answers after a dog was found dead in his front yard. Thanks to surveillance footage provided by the dog's owner, they have a suspect.

Late Tuesday evening, a transient walked across the front yard of a home on East Second Street and was caught on camera stabbing the dog to death, police say.

The suspect chased the yellow Labrador retriever and moments later, "stabbed the harmless dog to death," Pomona police said in a recent release.

Footage shows the suspect holding a large edged weapon, believed to be a knife, Police Chief Michael Olivieri stated. Pomona police released this image of the incident.

"At this time, the whereabouts and identity of the suspect are unknown," and police seek help in finding the culprit.

The man was wearing a "fisherman" style t-shirt, shorts, black socks, and sandals. He is white or Hispanic, 30- to 35-years-old, 5-feet, 10-inches tall weighing approximately 130 pounds. The suspect has black hair, brown eyes, and is known to frequent the street where the dog was killed, police say.
