Man Stabbed, Dies At Metro Station In Duarte

Authorities detained one suspect after a man was found dead at the Metro Gold Line Station in Duarte, Tuesday.

DUARTE, CA — One person was detained for questioning after another was fatally attacked on a San Gabriel Valley Metro Gold Line train in the Duarte area, officials said.

The killing occurred at about 11:30 a.m., as a Metro Gold Line train en route from Irwindale stopped at the Duarte Station, said Ramon Montenegro of the Sheriff's Transit Services Bureau.

The victim, who may have been stabbed, was pronounced dead by county firefighters at the scene, Montenegro said. His name was withheld, pending notification of relatives.

Authorities detained another man for questioning in connection with the crime, Montenegro said.

Gold Line trains were passing by the Duarte Station due to the investigation, and buses were brought in to help shuttle travelers between the Irwindale and Monrovia stations, with delays expected of up to 10 minutes, according to Metro.
