Metrolink Train Fatally Strikes Man In San Gabriel Valley

A Metrolink train traveling through Baldwin Park on it's way to Los Angeles killed a man who'd been sitting on the tracks, police say.

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, CA -- A Metrolink train that was headed for Los Angeles Thursday night fatally struck a man in Baldwin Park who had been sitting on the railroad tracks, police said.

The fatal collision occurred 8:54 p.m. on Ramona Boulevard at Downing Avenue after the man ignored the train horn, the automated crossing arms, flashing warning lights and an audible warning system, police said in a statement.

Metrolink train #337 of the San Bernardino line struck the man, who died at the scene.

As of Friday morning, the coroner’s office has not yet identified the man, but he was described by Baldwin Park police as a Latino between 50 to 60 years old, with black hair, brown eyes, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 165 pounds.

Police said toxicology tests will conducted.

After the incident, buses were used to transport Metrolink passengers traveling in both directions between Union Station and San Bernardino.
