Today, Assembly Bill 35 authored by Assemblyman Roger Hernandez (who represents Baldwin Park in State Legislature) passed the Senate Labor Committee on a 4-0 vote. This bill helps integrate Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) youth into our economy. Specifically, this bill provides consumer protections against fraudulent and unlawful practices from people, such as attorneys, immigration consultants and notary publics attempting to provide those services for a fee. “I am focused on restoring California’s strong economy and global competitive edge, we recognize we will need the collective skills and talents of these young immigrants to aid our state in reaching our true potential,” said Hernandez. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or commonly known as DACA program is a federal directive where youth are allowed a temporary stay in the United States and work authorization, with the stay and work permit subject to renewal. “While the Comprehensive Immigration Reform package is being battled in our nation’s Capital, I am ready to carry my part in making sure their integration in our workforce, economy and society becomes reality,” stated Hernandez. AB 35 moves next to the Senate Committee on Judiciary.
