Overturned Semi-Truck Causes 60 Freeway Pile-Up

A semi truck and three other vehicles collided, prompting several lane closures of the 60 Freeway, in San Gabriel Valley.

AVOCADO HEIGHTS, CA — An overturned semi truck colliding with three other vehicles has caused traffic mayhem in the San Gabriel Valley, authorities say. Several lanes of the east- and westbound Pomona (60) Freeway between Avocado Heights and South El Monte were closed as of 8:45 a.m. from the early morning collision.

Crews were busy at work near the 605 and 60 interchange, removing the payload from the overturned truck, but the cleanup was expected to go on for several hours according to CHP.

The initial incident occurred just after 3:30 a.m. near Crossroads Parkway and the eastbound 60, when the big rig overturned, landing on top of the center divider, blocking the carpool lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The carpool and Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the eastbound Pomona Freeway would be closed for an unknown duration. Traffic was diverted off the freeway at Crossroads Parkway, the CHP said.
