Two Baldwin Park Residents Arrested in Cockfighting Raid

Fred Cervantes, a 37-year old and Oscar Galvez, 34, both from Baldwin Park were arrested for cruelty to animals in San Bernardino County.

Authorities in San Bernardino County raided an illegal cockfighting location last Saturday arresting seven people, including two residents from Baldwin Park, informed ABC 7 Los Angeles.

Fred Cervantes, a 37-year old and Oscar Galvez, 34, both residents of Baldwin Park were among 7 people arrested for cruelty to animals, informed ABC.

Police said about 50 persons ran when officers showed up at the area of Oleander and Boyle avenues in Fontana.

"When we pulled up, people started running everywhere," Lt. Jim Escarpe, from the Fontana Police Department told the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Escarpe told the newspaper it was uncertain if the seven people arrested were spectators or connected to the cockfighting operation itself.

Officers discovered 60 live roosters, six live hens, 40 dead roosters, a fighting arena, a weigh-in area, a betting board and razor spurs, as well as $20,000 in cash. The live birds were taken to an animal shelter

Other people arrested were: Juan Rodriguez, 52, of Los Angeles; Martin Velasquez, 44, of Ontario; Hector Hernandez, 40, of La Puente; Omar Herrera, 32, of Perris; and Ignacio Herrera, 26, of Perris.
