Two Dead After Crash in 605 Freeway

All southbound lanes of the freeway were closed following the crash in Whitter early Thursday after a chain-reaction crash.

Two people were killed and a third suffered minor injuries this morning in a multi-vehicle collision on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Whittier, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash on the southbound 605 at Whittier Boulevard near the border with unincorporated Pico-Rivera was reported at 2:23 a.m., according to the agency.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and a third suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital, said Los Angeles County Fire Department supervising dispatcher Rey Dong.

The deceased were the drivers of their respective cars, a news photographer reported from the scene. At least one other vehicle was involved in the wreck, he said.

All southbound lanes of the freeway were closed following the crash and traffic was being diverted onto Beverly Boulevard, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.
