Woman Assaulted Walking on Street in Covina

The woman told Police that the man walked quickly toward her, grabbed her from behind, turned her toward him, and sexually touched her over her clothing.

Covina police today were seeking a man who assaulted a woman in the parking garage of her apartment building.

The crime, being investigated as a sexual battery, occurred about 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of East Cienega Avenue, Covina police Sgt. Ray Marquez said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the woman, about 25 years of age, was moving her vehicle in the parking garage when she was accosted by the suspect, Marquez said. The woman was not physically injured, Marquez said.

The woman struggled with the man and broke free from him, and he ran away, Marquez said. The woman went to her apartment and called police.

The man was described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighing about 175 pounds. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans.

Police were working to determine if the man could have committed any similar crimes in the area. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at (626) 384-5621.
