$1.77 Billion Winning Powerball Ticket Sold In CA
Lottery officials say one ticket matching all five white numbers plus the red Powerball was purchased in California to win $1.765 billion.

CALIFORNIA β A lucky player purchased a jackpot-winning Powerball ticket in Californiaβ worth a whopping $1.765 billion, lottery officials announced Wednesday night.
"A single ticket sold in California matched all six numbers drawn Wednesday night to win a Powerball jackpot worth $1.765 billion," Powerball officials said in a news release. "The jackpot has a cash value of $774.1 million."
The winning numbers were: 22, 24, 40, 52, 64 and the Powerball was 10.

The jackpot ticket was sold at Midway Market & Liquor in Frazier Park, according to the California Lottery. That's in Kern County in Southern California β not far off Interstate 5, near the Grapevine.
Two tickets worth $2 million each were sold, as well. Those were in Arizona and Pennsylvania and matched all five white balls with the "prize multiplier option," according to Powerball officials.

Another seven tickets sold for Wednesday's drawing are worth $1 million each, for matching all five white balls. Two were sold in California, two in Florida, one in New York, one in Oklahoma and one in Virginia.
The $1 million California tickets were sold at the MLS Mini Mart #2 in Santa Clara and Atlantic Wine & Spirit in Monterey Park, according to the California Lottery.
Before Wednesday's drawing, the main Powerball prize was estimated at $1.73 billion, but lottery officials said last minute ticket sales pushed the jackpot even higher.
This is now the second-largest Powerball jackpot ever won. The world record for a Powerball jackpot also happened here in California, when someone scored the $2.04 billion jackpot in November 2022.
Before someone won Wednesday's giant prize, there had been 35 consecutive drawings without a big winner, stretching back to July 19 when a player β yet again in California β matched all six numbers and won $1.08 billion.
That streak trails the record of 41 draws set in 2021 and 2022.

In most states, a Powerball ticket costs $2 and players can select their own numbers or leave that task to a computer.
The $1.765 billion jackpot is for a sole winner who opts for payment through an annuity, doled out over 30 years. Winners almost always take the cash option.
Winnings are subject to federal taxes, and many states also tax lottery winnings. California does not have a state tax on lottery winnings.
Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
