2 Earthquakes Strike Near Cabazon
The earthquakes were centered in the San Gorgonio Pass area. Did YOU feel them?
CABAZON, CA β Two small earthquakes rattled parts of the Banning Pass Area on Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reports. The first was a preliminary magnitude 3.5 temblor that was recorded at 5:18 p.m., with an epicenter about 6 miles northeast of Cabazon. An automatic USGS report indicates it was located:
- 6.2 mi NNE of Cabazon
- 8.7 mi NE of Banning
- 11.2 mi WSW of Morongo Valley
- 18.6 mi NW of Palm Springs
- 27.3 mi ENE of Moreno Valley
- 31.7 mi ESE of San Bernardino
Reports on the USGS "Did You Feel It?" map indicated shaking could be felt in some areas of the western Coachella Valley, including in Palm Springs and Cathedral City.
Another small quake -- this one with a preliminary magnitude of 1.6 -- struck in the same area about 20 minutes later at 5:39 p.m.
