3 Dead As Fire Rips Through Hemet Apartment Complex

BREAKING: Reports indicate that father may have been killed trying to save two children in the blaze.


HEMET, CA β€” A fast-moving fire tore through an apartment complex in Hemet Friday, killing three people and displacing several residents, according to fire officials and media reports.

The fire was reported about 1:15 a.m. in the 100 block North Alessandro Street, near Latham Avenue.

News video from the scene showed thick smoke around the complex as Hemet police officers went door-to-door to alert residents to get out of the building.

ABC7 showed a body being removed from the location, and coroner's personnel were on the scene. The news station reports that a 41-year-old father, a 4-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl were all killed, and that the father died after running inside to help the others.

Media reports said up to three other people were hurt in the fire.

The cause was under investigation.
