Attempted Kidnapping Of Schoolgirl Leads To MoVal Arrest: Cops

The suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the child and said in Spanish, "Get in the truck, I won't hurt you," authorities said.

MORENO VALLEY, CA β€” A man suspected of attempting to kidnap a 12-year-old schoolgirl at gunpoint in Moreno Valley was behind bars Monday and was being held on $1 million bail.

Arturo Ramirez Cisneros, 40, of Moreno Valley is suspected in the alleged Jan. 18 attempted abduction.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, a man, later identified as Cisneros, stopped his green Toyota Tacoma near the girl as she was walking home from Sunnymead Middle School in Moreno Valley on Jan. 18.

Cisneros pointed a handgun at the child and said in Spanish, "Get in the truck, I won't hurt you," according to a report from the sheriff's department.

The girl took off running and two people nearby came to her rescue. She was not injured during the incident, the department reported.

Cisneros fled the area but late Friday morning deputies found his truck in the city and arrested him without incident. He was booked into Banning's Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and a drug charge. He is due to appear in court Tuesday.

It's not clear whether Cisneros knew the child prior to the alleged attempted abduction.
