Banning Cops Arrest Man Suspected Of Firing Handgun Near Homes

On Dec. 29 just after midnight, a man was seen firing a weapon in a Banning neighborhood.

BANNING, CA β€” A 24-year-old convicted felon is behind bars on suspicion of firing a gun in a Banning neighborhood in December, police said.

Russell Angel Miranda Jr. of Banning was arrested Thursday, Dec. 29, and is being held on pending charges of willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to police.

Just after midnight on Dec. 29, officers from the Banning Police Department responded to reports of someone firing a weapon near a residential area, Banning Police Spokesperson Sol Ivett Avila said.

Investigators located Miranda about an hour later inside a Banning apartment on East Barbour Street. According to Avila's report, they also recovered the firearm and ammunition believed to be used in the shooting.

Miranda was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, according to jail records.
