Beaumont Big Lots Store Among 8 IE Locations To Permanently Close

BEAUMONT, CA—The Beaumont Big Lots store at 1482 E. 2nd Street is permanently closing. It is one of eight Inland Empire Big Lots locations — and more than 50 statewide — scheduled to shutter.

The closures were announced individually on the discount retail chain's California store locator function on its website. The shutdowns are expected this year.

The closures follow a June quarterly report that foreshadowed trouble ahead.

"While we made substantial progress on improving our business operations in Q1, we missed our sales goals due largely to a continued pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items," Big Lots President and CEO Bruce Thorn said in a June statement.

Big Lots leaders also said inflation, the cost of goods, and competitive and economic pressures are reasons for the company's woes.

In October 2023, CreditRiskMonitor reported that Big Lots was nearing a potential Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
