BEAUMONT, CA β€” The $64 million expansion of the Beaumont High School campus that was completed this year will be celebrated next month during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

On Oct. 5, officials will hold the 4:30 p.m. ceremony in the school's theater, 39139 Cherry Valley Blvd.

The scope of the expansion included two new 30,000-square-foot, two-story modular construction buildings; 40 new classrooms, including space for Career Technical Education programs; an additional administration wing; a new lunch shelter building; an entrance canopy; and a field storage and concessions building. The work also included two new parking lots, dedicated bus and student drop-off zones, new tennis courts, new basketball courts, new softball and baseball fields, and multiple new soccer fields.

The expansion's funding was mostly covered by Measure Z, a 2008 $125 million bond measure passed with 62% voter approval. Funding was also garnered through developer fees, said BUSD spokesperson Alex Sponheim.

Constructed in 2006, BHS has a current student population of 3,024. Over the next decade or so, that student body is estimated to increase by more than 1,600, officials have said.

The BHS expansion was approved by the district after findings from a Beaumont Unified School District committee determined the cost to build a new comprehensive high school was approximately $200 million dollars.
