βGoetz is a Messianic Christian who has been called a modern-day psalmist,β said Chris Johnson, senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Beaumont. βWe are pleased to bring him to the Pass. His praise music is based on Scriptures and steeped in Jewish history and music.β
Marty Goetz began his singing career as half of βBert & Marty,β singing at clubs and dinner theaters around Pittsburgh while he studied English at Carnegie Mellon University. After he graduated, the team set out for New York City. One week later, they were performing in hotels in the Catskill Mountains, and that summer, they were awarded βBest New Act of 1974.β

Then, Bert became a Christian. Horrified, Goetz dissolved the act and returned to New York City and worked as a songwriter and cabaret entertainer until 1978, when he turned his efforts from Broadway to pop, moving to Los Angeles.
Disturbed by the number people becoming Christians around him, he decided to look for loopholes in the Bible. A few weeks later, he realized that βthe Jesus of the New Testament was the Messiah my people have been longing for.β
