CHP Officers Corral Bull After He Wanders Onto Beaumont Freeway

The bull on the lam made his way all the way from Cherry Valley and somehow onto Interstate 10.

BEAUMONT, CA β€” Pass Area California Highway Patrol Officers responded to an unusual call for service this week, and found themselves face-to-face with a large bull. The beast had made his way onto Interstate 10 in Beaumont and gave passersby quite the show.

CHP Officer Darren Meyer tells Patch it happened around 4:25 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 10 near Cherry Valley Boulevard. The agency was bombarded with several calls from people who spotted the animal.

"The call came in as a large bull walking westbound on the freeway," he said. "Someone said 'it has very large horns,' and another person called to say 'it looks like he wants to cross the road'."

Responding CHP officers first ran a traffic break to access the bull and were soon able to get it into a nearby closed rest area, Meyer said. The agency then called out a brand inspector from Riverside County to examine the animal's markings.

"By 7 p.m., the brand inspector tracked down the owner and contacted them," Meyer said. "At 7:50 p.m. the owner loaded up the bull into a trailer and took him home."

No one was hurt in the unique ordeal.

"Everyone was happy and that's no bull," Meyer joked.
