Coroner IDs Beaumont Man Killed On Highland Springs Avenue

During an investigation into the fatal incident, police suspect the 60-year-old man was suicidal.

BEAUMONT, CA β€” A pedestrian who was struck and killed Tuesday by a tractor-trailer in Beaumont has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.

Eric Olson, 60, of Beaumont was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after being at hit at 3:01 p.m. in the 500 block of N. Highland Springs Avenue, the coroner reported.

During an investigation into the fatal incident, which included witness interviews, Beaumont Police Department determined Olson may have been trying to die.

"Initial witness statements and other evidence gathered by officers indicate the subject may have intentionally thrown himself in front of the passing truck," the police department reported Tuesday.

No one else was injured in the crash, and no arrests were publicly announced.

The fatality forced the closure of Highland Springs Avenue for several hours Tuesday afternoon.
