Coroner IDs Beaumont Victim Killed In I-10 Crash

The 24-year-old driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Jeep.

BEAUMONT, CA β€” A Beaumont resident killed in a solo-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on Interstate 10 has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.

Alexis Alfarue, 24, died at the crash scene at 12:49 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway, west of Highway 62, in North Palm Springs, according to the coroner's bureau. The coroner's bureau identified Alfarue as female, but his wife said he was a transgender man who identified as Benjamin Eugene Alfarue.

Alfarue was driving a 2019 Jeep Wrangler westbound on the interstate at an unknown speed when the vehicle went out of control onto the freeway's right shoulder. The Jeep crashed into a pole and overturned, landing in westbound I-10 lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Alfarue was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Jeep, the CHP reported.

Alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to be crash factors, the CHP said.

The CHP is continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information about the fatal incident is asked to call Officer Torres at 760-772-5300.
