Coroner IDs Maserati Driver Killed In 60 Freeway Crash

The 36-year-old man died from injuries sustained in the weekend crash.

MORENO VALLEY, CA β€” A motorist killed after his Maserati SUV struck a big rig and skidded down an embankment off the 60 Freeway in Moreno Valley over the weekend has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.

Timothy Carr, 36, of Moreno Valley was fatally injured in the predawn hours Saturday along the eastbound side of the freeway near Frederick Street, according to the coroner.

When first responders got to the scene around 2:42 a.m., they found the 2018 Maserati on its side resting against a tree. The driver, later identified as Carr, was clinging to life, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Juan Quintero.

Carr had been "traveling at a high rate of speed," when he abruptly swerved out of the eastbound slow lane and into the adjacent lane, where a big rig was traveling, the CHP's preliminary report showed.

"The driver ... struck the right rear of the semi," Quintero said. "The force of the impact separated the roof of the Maserati and was torn open to the rear seating area."

The compact SUV spun off of the freeway and went down the embankment, crashing into the tree, according to Quintero.

The trucker stopped and called 911, Quintero said.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews were able to extricate Carr from the Maserati but he was pronounced dead on arrival a short time later at Riverside University Medical Center.

An autopsy was pending.
