Dozens Arrested In RivCo Domestic Violence Sweep

Sheriff's officials say they targeted convicted and suspected domestic violence offenders in a multi-agency operation.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA β€” Dozens of residents from across Riverside County were arrested this week as the Riverside County Sheriff's Department rounded up people wanted in connection to domestic violence cases.

The Thursday operation was done as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and included the participation of sheriff's deputies from the Lake Elsinore, Hemet/San Jacinto, Temecula and Palm Desert stations.

"The scope of the operation was to locate and arrest subjects on outstanding warrants related to acts of domestic violence," a sheriff's spokesperson said.

Some of the cases involved accusations of domestic violence, restraining order violations, and indecent exposure.

Five Temecula residents were arrested in the sweep, officials said. Three of the cases involve charges of spousal battery, one involved charges of assault with a deadly weapon and one involved charge of violating a protective order.

In nearby French Valley, two people were arrested on suspicion of spousal batter and one man was arrested on suspicion of violating a protective order.

Hemet police Sgt. Michael Arellano said that in the Hemet and San Jacinto valleys, nine people were arrested after a total 24 "family violence- related warrants" were served. Sheriff's officials served additional warrants in the Hemet and San Jacinto areas, arresting 14 others.

Lake Elsinore deputies arrested two people in Wildomar: one on suspicion of domestic violence and another on suspicion of domestic battery. Four Lake Elsinore residents were also nabbed; two for domestic violence, one for domestic battery and one for domestic battery and indecent exposure.

In neighboring Temescal Valley, a woman was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, reports show. A man in Good Hope was also arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.

And out in the desert, sheriff's officials say they arrested a total of six people, two of them from Palm Desert who are accused of domestic battery. The other Coachella Valley-area arrests were made in Thousand Palms, Desert Hot Springs and North Palm Springs.
