Several lanes on both sides of I-10 were expected to be shut down for hours Saturday, snarling traffic through the San Gorgonio Pass.
BANNING, CA β Emergency roadwork forced the closure of Interstate 10 in Banning for most of the day Saturday, snarling traffic throughout the San Gorgonio Pass.
Caltrans crews closed up to three lanes of the I-10 first on the eastbound side of the freeway Saturday morning and then on the westbound side from Hargrave Street to 22nd Street. Crews were conducting emergency bridge repair work, according to the California Highway Patrol. The closures began around 9 a.m. Saturday and were expected to continue until 7 p.m., bringing the freeway to a crawl for miles.
Traffic was backed up all the way to the Palm Desert area. Commuters were advised to avoid the area Saturday.
