Fire Sends Black Smoke Into Pass Area

A big rig was engulfed in flames in the incident.

BANNING, CA β€” Riverside County fire crews responded Tuesday to a vehicle fire on Interstate 10 that sent a plume of black smoke into the region.

The fire was reported at 9:57 a.m. on the westbound side of I-10 near Hargrave Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. Preliminary reports indicate a big rig burned on the side of the roadway.

No injuries were reported, but two lanes were closed in the area of the fire. No other vehicles appeared to be involved.

As of 10:30 a.m., logs indicated a tow truck was called to the scene, but was waiting for the fire to be completely extinguished before they could haul the wreckage off.

A sig alert was later issued as a result of the wreck and traffic reports indicated major delays as a result.
