Funeral Procession, Services Set For Slain RivCo Sheriff's Deputy
A public viewing takes place Friday in Murrieta, followed Saturday morning by a funeral procession to Abundant Living Family Church.

MURRIETA, CA β Funeral services for fallen Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Darnell Calhoun were announced overnight, including details about a public viewing and procession from Murrieta to Rancho Cucamonga.
According to the sheriff's department, a public viewing is set for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Murrieta Valley Funeral Home, 24651 Washington Avenue, Murrieta.
Starting at approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, a procession from the funeral home to Abundant Living Family Church, 10900 Civic Center Drive, in Rancho Cucamonga will take place, the department announced. Funeral services were scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will be live-streamed on the department's Facebook and YouTube pages. Interment services will be private.

During the funeral procession, members of the public are welcome to line the streets in support, the agency said. Riverside County sheriff's deputies and San Diego Police Department officers will take part and other law enforcement agencies are being invited to join.
According to the sheriff's department, the procession route from the mortuary to the church is as follows:

- Northbound on Washington Avenue from the mortuary parking lot
- Turn right, head eastbound on Kalmia Street and merge onto Interstate 15 north
- Continue Interstate 15 north to 4th Street, Rancho Cucamonga
- Exit 4th Street and travel westbound to Milliken Avenue
- Turn right Milliken Avenue and proceed northbound to Arrow Route
- Turn left onto Arrow Route and continue west to White Oak Avenue.
- Turn left on Elm Avenue into the Abundant Living Family Church
More than 1,000 people turned out Wednesday night at Town Square Park in Murrieta for a candlelight vigil to honor Calhoun, who was fatally shot Friday when responding to a domestic disturbance call in Lakeland Village. Calhoun was raised in Murrieta and his parents own Calhoun's Texas Family Barbeque in Old Town Murrieta.

Calhoun was assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station after he laterally transferred from the San Diego Police Department nearly one year ago.
A "Help A Hero" fundraiser for Calhoun's family has been established. As of Thursday morning, $223,614 in donations had been made. Donate at helpahero.com/campaign/deputy-darnell-calhoun.
Six Southwest Riverside County McDonald's restaurants are coming together Friday to raise funds to support Calhoun's young family. He left behind a pregnant wife and two small children. Read more about that fundraiser here.
