Gusty Wind Expected in Banning

Gusty wind is expected to develop Monday afternoon along the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.

A National Weather Service wind advisory for the pass is scheduled to extend from 2 p.m. Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday.

β€œA trough of low pressure and strong onshore flow will produce locally strong gusty winds in the lower deserts this afternoon through tonight,” according to the weather service.

West winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts to 55 mph are forecast for the San Gorgonio Pass.

Although the Coachella Valley was not included under the advisory, northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected there. Gusts could reach 25 mph today and 40 mph tonight.

Forecasters said the wind could lead to difficult travel conditions along parts of Interstate 10, especially for motorists in high profile vehicles. Blowing dust and sand could also impact drivers.
