A Hemet couple were arrested Monday Dec. 30Β on suspicion of weapons violations and child endangerment, and their three children were removed from their home byΒ Child Protective Services, a sheriff's sergeant said.
Deputies began investigating in theΒ the 41600 block of Whittier Avenue, in East Hemet, late Sunday and early Monday, Sgt.Β Wallace Clear of the sheriff's Hemet Station said in a statement.
They responded to a reportΒ of "a male armed with a knife who forced his way into a home" on Whittier, Clear said.Β "The occupant of the home armed himself with a handgun and held the suspect at bay until deputies arrived at the scene."
The suspect, identified asΒ Jay Ryland Dossey, 32, was taken into custody and told deputies "he believed his family was in danger at their residence located on the same block," Clear said.
Deputies went to Dossey'sΒ residence and found his wife and three small children unharmed, Clear said.
"They also saw evidence that numerous shots had been fired within the residence while the suspect's wife and children were present," Clear said.Β "Several weapons including handguns and a semi-automatic rifle were discovered and taken as evidence. Narcotic paraphernalia was also found inside."
Deputies learned Dossey and his wife,Β Kelee Lynette Dossey, 35, had previous felony convictions prohibiting them from possessing firearms, Clear said.
Jay Dossey and Kelee Dossey were both arrested. Child Protective Services personnel removed the children from the home, and they wereΒ conducting a separate investigation, Clear said.
Jay Dossey was booked before 7 a.m. MondayΒ on suspicion of seven felonies and his bail was listed at $500,000, according to inmate records. He was held Monday night at Smith Correctional in Banning.
Kelee Dossey was booked at 4:40 p.m. Monday at Smith Correctional, according to inmate records. Her bail and charges were not listed as of 9 p.m.Β Monday.
