Update 10:10 p.m.Β Hemet police have released info about an alleged armed robbery at a coin store on East FloridaΒ that preceded a stand-off at an apartment complex Tuesday afternoonΒ in the 400 block of West Kimball.
Three suspects were arrested and they were identified as Marquise Fraise, 22, of Paramount, Trevonte Glymph, 18, of Hemet, and Jesse Thomas, 26, of Lakewood, Hemet police Lt. Eric Dickson said in a statement.
The three suspects were arrested onΒ suspicion of armed robbery and they wereΒ being held on $30,000 bail, Dickson said.
The alleged armedΒ robbery was reported at 11:33 am. Jan. 21 when someone called 9-1-1 from a coin store inΒ the 200 block of East Florida Avenue, Dickson said.
"The victim advised that two men armed with handguns and wearing masks entered the store and stole cash and jewelry," Dickson said.
The suspects fledΒ in a gray Nissan, seen heading west toward State Street, Dickson said.Β No one was injured at the store.
"All available Hemet Police units responded to the area along with members of the RiversideΒ County Gang Task Force," Dickson said.
Hemet Police Sgt. R. Gibbs was en route andΒ noticed a vehicle matching the suspectΒ description driving west on Kimball from State, and GibbsΒ followed as the vehicleΒ turnedΒ north onto Alessandro, Dickson said.
The vehicle suddenly accelerated away from Gibbs, continuing north on Alessandro where it ends at railroad tracksΒ "and the vehicle became disabled as it drove off the roadway," Dickson said.
Three suspects jumped out of the vehicle, one was detained, andΒ the other two ran west along the railroad tracks toward Gilbert Street, Dickson said.
"As additional police units entered the area, the suspects were seen jumping into the rear yards of the homes in the 400 block of W. Kimball," Dickson said.
Police set up a searchΒ perimeter and asΒ officers startedΒ yard-to-yard searches, they were notified that "two suspects had forced their way into anΒ apartment in the 400 block of W. Kimball Β . . .Β and were hiding in the attic," Dickson said.
Police surrounded the apartment and evacuated the surrounding homes, Dickson said.
"Officers beganΒ verbal negotiations in an attempt to get the suspects to surrender but were unsuccessful," Dickson said.
The Hemet-Murrieta SWAT Team was called outΒ to take over the operation, Dickson said.Β Members of a joint Crisis Negotiations Team also responded to assist.
Hemet police detectives got a search warrant as the stand-off stretched to some three and a half hours, Dickson said.
The two outstandingΒ suspects were located and taken into custodyΒ in one of the adjoining apartments, Dickson said.
"Investigators learned that the suspects had climbed through the apartments' common attic and had broken into another apartment through the ceiling where they hadΒ begun moving furniture to barricade themselves from the S.W.A.T. Team," Dickson said.
All suspects were reportedΒ in custody shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Hemet police detectives were still actively working the case and had recovered one firearm as of 9:20 p.m. Jan. 21, Dickson said.
Update 4:20 p.m.Β Police took an undisclosed number of suspects into custody Tuesday afternoon during aΒ street closure in a Hemet neighborhood.
West Kimball was closedΒ between State and Gilbert, and Gilbert was closedΒ between Florida and Acacia, according to Hemet police.
"All suspects in custody," Hemet police posted shortly after 4 p.m. Jan. 21.Β "The roadway will open soon."
Confirmed details of what occurred were not immediately available from Hemet police.
Update 4:01 p.m.Β Police closed down access to two streets during an incident Tuesday afternoon in Hemet.
West Kimball was closedΒ between State and Gilbert, and Gilbert was closedΒ between Florida and Acacia, according to Hemet police.
"Please stay out of the area," Hemet police said in a traffic alert posted about 2 p.m.Β Jan. 21.
Confirmed details of the incident from Hemet police were not immediately available.
Posted 3:41 p.m.Β Hemet police were involved in an active incident Tuesday afternoonΒ in theΒ 400 block of West Kimball, a Hemet police lieutenant said.
"I'm involved in the scene right now," Lt. Eric Dickson said in an email to Banning-Beaumont Patch just before 3:30 p.m. Jan. 21.
Confirmed details of the incident were not immediately available from Hemet police. A dispatcher referred questions to Dickson.
