High Temperatures Expected To Start Dropping In Riverside County

Though triple digit temps were still predicted in the region on Tuesday, some 'cool' news is on the way, forecasters say.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA β€” Riverside County will cool off slightly Tuesday following a brutal heat wave that sent temperatures soaring well into the triple digits in desert areas.

An excessive heat warning for the Coachella Valley and a heat advisory covering the Riverside metropolitan area both expired at 8 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Thermal reached 118 degrees Monday, tying a 1998 high temperature record for that day, while the mercury in Palm Springs topped out at 117 degrees.

High temperatures Tuesday will be 101 in the Riverside metropolitan area, 100 in the Riverside County mountains, 112 in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning and 113 in the Coachella Valley.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued an Ozone Advisory through Tuesday morning across the county, warning that the hot weather increased the likelihood of "unhealthy to very unhealthy air quality."

The agency advised Inland Empire residents to avoid activities that require prolonged or heavy exertion, especially those who have lung or heart disease, the elderly and children.

High temperatures for Wednesday are expected to be at least four degrees cooler in most areas, forecasters said.
