IE Woman Left 2 Babies In Car While Shopping At Walmart: Cops

Crystal Reyna Gonzalez was arrested after a Facebook Live video went viral of the kids inside a car alone during soaring temperatures.

INLAND EMPIRE, CA -- A California woman was arrested this week after she allegedly left two babies inside an SUV amid a heat wave. The Daily Bulletin reported Crystal Reyna Gonzalez was arrested after the 1-year-old and 9-month-old children were found by passersby in a Walmart parking lot.

The incident went viral on social media after one person posted a Facebook Live video of the children stuck inside the car while waiting for police to arrive.

β€œThe AC was not on, the windows were slightly cracked, but the car was off and the doors were locked,” Ontario police Detective Melissa Ramirez told the Daily Bulletin. β€œWe estimate she was in the store for at least half an hour. Investigators are reviewing video surveillance for a more accurate time.”

In the video recorded by Curtis Owens, worried members of the public surround the car as they wait for the police. Owens can be heard saying, "Oh no. There's two babies in the car. Wow."

The Daily Bulletin reported the incident is under investigation.

In the last two weeks, there have been at least two other reports of California children being left in the car. In both cases β€” one in Sacramento and another in Willitsβ€”the children ultimately died.
