Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrated Across Riverside County: What's Open
From Idyllwild to the Pass Area, cities are pausing to commemorate Indigenous Peoples Day.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA β Indigenous People's Day is Monday, Oct. 9, 2023. This holiday, which has overwritten Columbus Day on the calendar, comes with some things closed and others open, as well as various celebrations.
So, what's open and closed?
USPS: No mail will be delivered on Monday.

Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed on Monday.
Schools: Most of Riverside County's Public Schools will be open on Monday.

Trash Pickups: CR&R and Waste Management have regular service on Monday and throughout the following week. Landfills will also be open.
Libraries: Riverside County's library branches will be mostly closed on Monday. Check your local branch before you go.
Government Offices: City Halls and State Offices will likely be open Monday, though County Offices in Riverside County will be closed.
There will be some special events across the county celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day, as is Idyllwild Arts.
The Idyllwild Arts campus is presenting Indigenous People's Day celebrations on Sunday and Monday, they say, at the William M. Lowman Concert Hall.
On Monday, the center will host an event with live presentations starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Idyllwild Campus at 52500 Temecula Road in Idyllwild.
Special guests include Steven Paul Judd, Bethany Yellowtail, Tia Wood, Derrick Suwaima Davis, Connor Chee, Keith Secola, Ryon Polequatewa, Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso, Sky and Talon Duncan and the Native American Land Conservancy.
The celebration is expected to uplift all who attend, organizers say. It is free, with a meal at noon and a concert and reception at 5 p.m., also free and open to the public.
