1)Β The Banning Police Officers Association plans to hostΒ a public meeting 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.Β Tuesday Jan. 7 at Russo's Italian Kitchen, "to update the community on the state of the Banning Police Department and to answer questions," according to organizers.

2)Β The Banning City Council is seeking applicants for a 21-memberΒ Community Advisory Committee and the deadline to apply is Monday Jan. 13.

3) Lines at the Banning DMV office may be longerΒ than usualΒ this month due to a maintenance closure at the Hemet DMVΒ office.
As of 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, the Hemet officeΒ at 1200 S. State St. was closed and will remain so until 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 for HVAC equipment replacement, DMV officials said.
4) A wind advisory remains in effect for the San Gorgonio Pass areaΒ through 6 p.m. Monday Jan. 6.The winds are predicted to ease by this evening. The rest of this week the Pass area can expectΒ daytime highs in the 60s andΒ overnight lows in the 40s, according to the National Weather Service.
5) The 25th Palm Springs International Film Festival began Friday Jan. 3 and continues through Monday Jan. 13. For more info visitΒ www.psfilmfest.org.
