One person was arrested on suspicion of DUI, another was arrested with an active felony warrant, and eight vehicles were towedΒ during a checkpoint Tuesday night and early Wednesday in Palm Desert, a sheriff's sergeant said.
An estimated total of 768 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 679 of themΒ were screened by checkpoint personnel,Β Sgt.Β Dave Adams of the Palm Desert Station said in a statement.
The checkpoint was staged fromΒ 7 p.m. Dec. 31 toΒ 3 a.m. Jan. 1Β on Monterey Avenue south of Country Club Drive, Adams said.
"One individual was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 42 field sobriety tests were conducted," Adams said.
In additionΒ 11 drivers were arrested for driving while unlicensed or suspended, Adams said.
"One of these drivers had an active felony warrant for his arrest from a previous narcotics violation," Adams said. "His passenger was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Additionally, eight vehicles were towed."
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
