Pedestrian Killed, Man Arrested In San Jacinto Hit-And-Run

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, but investigators said they did not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.

SAN JACINTO, CA ? A pedestrian was struck and killed in San Jacinto by a vehicle whose alleged driver was later arrested on suspicion of hit and run, authorities said Sunday.

Deputies responded to State Street south of Esplanade Avenue around 5:10 p.m. Saturday to a report of a major injury crash involving a pedestrian, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The found the pedestrian on the shoulder of the road with severe injuries and rendered medical aid until the arrival of the Hemet Fire Department which took over life-saving measures.

The pedestrian ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian allegedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.

The San Jacinto Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Investigators identified the vehicle involved as a white 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, and the vehicle was located and stopped in Moreno Valley, sheriff's officials said.

Authorities identified the driver as 33-year-old Darell Davis of Moreno Valley. Davis was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony hit and run. According to deputies, the vehicle involved had extensive damage and was impounded as evidence.

The identity of the pedestrian was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
