Person Hit In Lamb Canyon, Prompting Closure: CHP

The southbound side of the highway in Beaumont has reopened after being closed for about two hours as a result of the incident.

BEAUMONT, CA β€” A person was hit by a car on SR-79 in Lamb Canyon, prompting authorities to close all southbound lanes for about two hours and issue a sig alert, the California Highway Patrol reports.

All lanes had reopened by 12:47 p.m., according to preliminary CHP reports.

CHP reports indicate a wreck was first reported at 9:55 a.m. on the southbound side of SR-79, near California. A vehicle rolled 'several times' off the right-hand shoulder of the highway. Images from the scene show it landed on its roof.

Then, at 10:38 a.m., logs indicate a tow truck driver was hit. It wasn't immediately clear if that driver had been responding to the earlier wreck. An update on the person's condition wasn't available, but an ambulance was called to the scene.

The CHP set up a temporary road closure at California Avenue as a result of the crash.

Riverside County Fire officials say another person was treated at the scene, but refused transport to a hospital.
