SKY VALLEY, CA β€” Dave Gardner was on his morning walk Tuesday in Sky Valley and lucky for us captured 2021's Pink Supermoon setting over the mountains. It's a lovely sight!

According to NASA, the moon is named after a pink moss, Phlox subulata, which is native to the eastern United States and is one of spring's earliest widespread flowers.

The term "supermoon" was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full moon that's within 90 percent of "perigee"β€” its closest approach to Earth.
