Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Shoots, Kills Man In Perris

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A man was shot and killed in Perris Monday by a Riverside County sheriff's deputy.

The shooting took place just after 8 a.m. at a residence in the 3300 block of Albillo Loop as deputies were conducting a probation compliance check.

Several people were in the home's backyard. One of the men provided false identifying information to deputies and tried to walk away, refusing commands to stop, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies used a taser on the man, but it was "ineffective," the sheriff's office reported.

The man continued to walk away and pulled out a handgun, prompting a deputy to fire on him, the sheriff's office reported.

It's not clear how many rounds hit the man.

Deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, according to the sheriff's office. The man was transported to a local hospital where he died. His identity was not released and it's not clear whether he was on probation.

According to sheriff's office policy, the unnamed deputy involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave. A member of the Riverside County District Attorney's Office will lead an investigation into the fatal shooting.

No deputies were injured during the incident.
