San Gorgonio Pass Area CHP Announces DUI Checkpoint

The checkpoint will be set up at approximately 8 p.m. Friday and will end at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

SAN GORGONIO PASS AREA, CA β€” The San Gorgonio Pass Area California Highway Patrol announced Wednesday it will hold a DUI checkpoint this weekend.

The checkpoint will be set up at an undisclosed location in unincorporated Riverside County at approximately 8 p.m. Friday and will end at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

The San Gorgonio Pass Area encompasses the communities of Banning, Beaumont, Cabazon, Hemet, San Jacinto and Winchester.

"The sobriety checkpoint will be staffed by CHP Officers who are trained in the detection of
alcohol and/or drug-impaired drivers," the announcement read. "Officers will also be equipped with state-of-the-art hand-held breath testing devices which provide an accurate measure of blood alcohol concentration of suspected drunk drivers."

Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the CHP said.
