The black GMC Yukon went out of control for unknown reasons and flipped, rolling across the eastbound side of the freeway, over the center divider wall and into the No. 1 lane on the westbound side. The driver or front seat passenger was ejected and tossed into the westbound fast lane, suffering major injuries, authorities said.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics took the patient to nearby Riverside University Medical Center in critical condition, according to reports from the scene. The other party in the SUV was taken to the same hospital, also with apparently life-threatening injuries.
