Smoke May Be Visible As Firefighters Burn Piles South Of Banning

IDYLLWILD, CA — Smoke and flames may be visible from as far as Hemet Monday as firefighters burn fallen tree limbs and other natural debris at a fire station in the San Bernardino National Forest.

The intentional slash pile burn began Monday morning on the grounds of the Vista Grande Fire Station between Banning and Idyllwild on Highway 243 and will continue throughout the day, according to the forest service.

Prescribed burns are routinely used during the winter season to clear spaces that might otherwise provide fuel for wildfires in the late spring and summer.
