Snow, Whipping Wind As Winter Storm Bears Down On Pass Area

Snow is forecast at elevations above 1,500 feet across the Inland Empire.

SAN GORGONIO PASS AREA, CA β€” Snowfall in the San Gorgonio Pass Area may continue Monday night, as a winter weather advisory remains in place through 6 a.m. Tuesday, forecasters said.

"Snow showers may occur at lower elevations, leading to difficult travel conditions. Tree branches could fall as well," the National Weather Service said Monday.

Snow was expected to fall at elevations above 1,500 feet across the Inland Empire.

Blowing snow could make driving difficult. "Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas," the NWS said.

A chance of snow showers was forecast before 10 p.m. in the San Gorgonio Pass, with areas of frost after that time.

Conditions will improve as the night goes on, but overnight temperatures will dip to the high 20s, and wind gusts of up to 25 mph are forecast.

The chance of rain will drop to 30 percent Monday night, and little snow accumulation is expected at the lower elevations.

Local mountains are seeing significant snowfall and chains are required on motor vehicles.

On Tuesday, skies are expected to clear in the Pass Area, with a daytime high near 44 degrees.

Another winter storm is expected this week, bringing with it a chance of more snow.
