Suspected Child Abuser Arrested In Banning

BANNING, CA — A Banning man suspected of lewd acts on a child was arrested Wednesday, police announced.

Mark Anthony Aleman, 36, was taken into custody at 1:30 p.m. at Banning Police Department headquarters, according to jail records. He was being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of willfully harming a child and lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14.

Banning detectives honed in on Aleman after receiving a call for service about suspected child abuse. According to the Banning Police Department, there was more than one victim and detectives "anticipate others will be identified."

Aleman's bail was set at $55,000 and he is due to appear in court Friday, jail records showed.
