Suspected Drunken Driver Crashes Through Palm Desert Gated Community

A suspected drunken driver barreled his truck over a sidewalk and plowed into the front of a Palm Desert gated community, a Riverside County sheriff's official said Sunday.

Deputies were dispatched at 7 p.m. Saturday to California and Michigan drives, where the Palm Desert Country Club Villas is located, sheriff's Sgt. Mike Tapp said.

The suspect, Travis Pierce, 32, of Palm Desert, was traveling east on California Drive in a GMC pickup truck when he drove over a sidewalk.

Pierce then plowed into the front gate of the community, escaping injury, Tapp said.

Pierce was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving.
