Wayward Tire Slams Into Porsche On 91 Freeway, Killing Passenger

The wheel and tire came off another vehicle, flew across the freeway, and struck the Porsche's windshield.

RIVERSIDE, CA β€” The passenger of a Porsche 911 died after being struck with a wayward tire on state Route 91 over the weekend.

The male victim, whose identity has not been released, was in the silver Porsche's front passenger seat just after 5 p.m. Sunday as the sport's car headed west in the freeway's fast lane, west of Lincoln Avenue, in Riverside.

That's when the wheel and tire from a green Ford Econoline van heading east on the freeway came flying off. The object came over the center divider, across the westbound express lanes, and into the Porsche's windshield, where it struck the passenger, according to the California Highway Patrol.
