Belmont To Celebrate Police Chief Dan DeSmidt At Retirement Event

BELMONT, CA — Belmont and Peninsula community members are invited to an event honoring the local police department's top cop. Police Chief Dan DeSmidt has served the Belmont Police Department for more than two dozen years.
"Join us in celebrating Police Chief Dan DeSmidt's 32 years of dedicated service to the Belmont community on Friday July 12th at the Taube Center, at the main entrance to the Notre Dame de Namur University Campus," the city said in an announcement.
"This is an informal event with appetizers and refreshments between 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. so drop by and help us thank Dan and see him off onto the next chapter."
DeSmidt will retire effective July 13and City Manager Greg Scoles will determine when and how to fill the position.
The chief has worked for the same department for 32 years, climbing the ranks from a Community Service Officer.
