Belmont Council To Choose, Appoint Successor For Vacant Seat

Councilman Doug Kim announced his resignation last month.

BELMONT, CA — The Belmont City Council on Sept. 24 will discuss the application and interview process for choosing a successor to fill the vacancy left when Councilman Doug Kim announced his resignation last month.

Kim made the announcement at the Aug. 27 council meeting Kim, previously a planning commissioner, was elected to a four-year term in 2015 and his term was extended by a year when council elections were moved to even years.

He served as mayor in 2018.

"The opportunity to help lead the City and represent the interests of our residents, businesses, and organizations has been a highlight of my public life," he wrote in his resignation letter to the city clerk. "My gratitude to the citizens of our city is deep."

He will be presented with a proclamation at a future meeting.
