Belmont Names New Councilmember

Belmont officials say three people applied to fill a vacancy on the city council.

BELMONT, CA — Belmont city officials on Tuesday announced the newest member of the city council. Tom McCune was appointed after a special council meeting this week and panel interview process.

"I am proud and honored to welcome Tom to our Council, he brings a wealth of experience to the public and private sector," Mayor Davina Hurt said. "I served with him on the planning commission, where he was a well-respected voice and will bring valuable community insight to the decision making table for Belmont."

McCune takes the place of Doug Kim, who resigned in September.

Belmont officials say three people applied to serve out the remainder of Kim's term, which ends in November 2020.

"Mr. McCune has considerable experience in serving the Belmont Community," the city said in a news release. "He is vacating a Planning Commission seat which he held since 2014 currently serving as chair for the second time. He previously served on the Finance Commission and the Infrastructure as hoc/Measure I Committee. He brings with him vast knowledge in infrastructure management, environmental management, financial management, city and strategic planning amongst other skills that will ensure continuity on the Council and Council priorities."
