Belmont Names New Parks & Rec Director

Brigitte Shearer comes to Belmont from the Highlands Recreation District in San Mateo County.

BELMONT, CA – Belmont City Manager Greg Scoles announced Wednesday that Brigitte Shearer will be the City’s new Parks and Recreation Director. Brigitte participated in very competitive recruitment process and was found to be the best fit for Belmont. She is a seasoned leader with a wide range of experience and will be a great addition to the senior management team.

Brigitte comes to Belmont from the Highlands Recreation District in San Mateo County where she currently works as the General Manager. Her current organization has over 80 full and part time employees, childcare programs, year-round aquatics facility, along with recreation classes and events for all ages. As the General Manager, she has served a community of very similar size and demographics to the City of Belmont, which includes people from unincorporated San Mateo County and neighboring communities.

Brigitte has over 25 years of leadership and management experience and has demonstrated success in providing excellent service. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Princeton University, and an M.B.A. from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.

“I’m am delighted to take on this new challenge, and I look forward to engaging with the community to build upon the Department’s past successes and to prepare Belmont’s recreation opportunities for a vibrant future,” stated Shearer.

Her first day will be May 2, 2018.
