Large Belmont Fire Extinguished; Evacuation Orders Lifted

Firefighters remained on scene overnight to address any hotspots. Residents were allowed to return home by 9 p.m. Monday.

BELMONT, CA—Residents were allowed to return home Monday night following a large vegetation fire that threatened homes in San Juan Canyon from East Laurel Creek Road to Cipriani Boulevard.

According to the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department, the fire started at 3:44 p.m. More than a dozen fire engines have been sent to the scene.

The fire was fully contained shortly after 5 p.m., after having burned approximately two acres.

While about 40 homes were evacuated, no homes were damaged and no injuries were reported. Property damage from the fire was limited to 40 feet of retaining wall and 60 feet of fencing.

The temporary evacuation site at Belmont Senior Center has since closed and all evacuation orders have been lifted.
