New Med Ofc gets new green at Kaiser Permanente Redwood City
The new medical office at Kaiser Permanente Redwood City got its first greenery, two Japanese maples once part of a downtown RWC art event
Two Japanese Maple Trees in large planter boxes were delivered to the construction site for Kaiser Permanente Redwood City’s new medical office. These are the first trees to complement a larger collection of greenery that will be part of the new building when it opens early in 2021.
The maple trees, and all the other plants, will be irrigated by recycled water. Recycled water will also be used inside the medical office building to flush fixtures and cool diagnostic equipment, like the MRI and X-ray machines.
The landscaping and recycled water is just one part of an overall effort to make the new Kaiser Permanente building more environmentally friendly.

The two maples have a bit of history in Redwood City. In 2018, Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center donated the boxed trees to a downtown art project. They were decorated with yarn and residents were encouraged to attach wishes to the limbs.
After the art project ended, Redwood City’s Public Works Department cared for the trees. They’ve grown some and when they arrived at the construction site, landscape workers said they look happy and healthy.
